Blood Type Explained: Everything You Need to Know About Blood Groups A, B, AB and O

Blood is a form of tissue, it consists of a fluid state It is carried out throughout the body by the long running channel of blood vessels. The comprising elements of bloods are red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), platelets and plasma.

The extensive network of arteries draws out oxygenated blood from heart to other parts of the body, whereas veins, on the contrary, carry the deoxygenated blood back to the heart from the various parts of the body.

Facts About Blood Groups

The human blood system consist of division where comprises of four groups, i.e. A, B, AB & O. This basis of division was suggested by Karl landsteiner. This division found its basis from the substances present over the Red Blood Cells (RBCs). The system of blood-group is an inherited factor in the human body, which is passed from the parent to the progeny.

How do Blood type work

The blood can be taken from one person to another,if in need, provided if the blood group of both the individuals (donors & recipient) matches. People of AB+ blood group are “universal acceptors’’ because they can accept blood from any blood group donor because they have the system of antigen of all A, B and Rh is present over the RBCs. And people of O- blood group are known to be the ‘universal donors” because their RBCs do not contain any antigen. Point to note here is that they can’t donate to Rh- people. AB- is found to be the rarest blood group.

People from A blood group can receive blood from people of O & A. They can donate blood to AB & A.

People from the B blood group can receive blood from people of B & O. They can donate blood to AB & B.

People from O blood group can receive blood only from O. But, they can’t donate to all A, B, AB, O.

It is often believed that a man of rh- blood group should not marry a woman having Rh- blood group, because it can create some sort of genetic disorders in the progeny, although, it is not a popular scientifically proven phenomenon.

One of the astonishing facts is that mere the presence or absence of A & B antigen over the RBCs gave rise to four different types of blood groups.

Few interesting facts are which are often believed are:

People of O blood group are less prone to falling prey to the bite of anopheles mosquito, the carrier of malaria.

People of A blood group are less prone to liver cancer development.

People with AB blood type are more prone to fall prey to cognitive diseases.

Mental health issues can be seen common in people of negative blood groups.

Rh factor could serve as a problem creating factor during pregnancy.

Negative blood groups are observed very rarely.

In layman terms, sweet blood attracts mosquitoes. It is because the mosquitoes can sense the sugar molecules secreted due to the presence of certain blood groups through the skin of few people.
